[NewCandle] EEStor Barium Titanate cap

Hi Bill,

Yeah, you make a good point! This is the problem with
paralleled caps, when one fails all the rest dump their
charge into the short. One could possibly divide up the
cells and put some kind of surge protection in, at a substantial
cost in efficiency and price. I don't know if this is
a show stopper though, given that the ordinary gas tank
does an excellent job of exploding when given the chance (grin).

By the way, this popped up on the dot of slash yesterday,

Using polypyrrole as a substrate, with electroactive molecules
embedded to provide for charge storage. Another approach
to that in-between region of caps and batteries.

Ultimately, one has to address the fact that chemical energies
are only so large, and there is an enormous gulf between
that and nuclear energies. A _real_ battery solution is going
to have to pioneer that big gap. What form that will take
remains to be seen, but one can appreciate that the solution
will have political problems as well as technical ones.
For example, here's a candidate technology that is already
generating a lot of controversy,

Hi, Keith.

I did a quick back-of-the-envelope calculation, and guessed that a
52-KWH cap (like EEStor mentions in their patent) would have the energy
of about 100 lbs of dynamite.

If there were an internal short between plates, can you think of
anything that would keep it from going BOOM?

Thanks,
Bill
