[NewCandle] Cold Electricty

Hey Jones,

That looks like a manganese zinc ferrite core. Given that we are screening
for a hard magnetic material in general, a simple test
to show the material is _not_ BaFe is to run a NIB magnet
over the surface of the core, and then check out the
results with a piece of magnetic viewing paper. If the
material is a hard ferrite, there will be a clear magnetic
track left on the core.

As regards the LED's. What these experiments have shown
to me is that you can use a LED as an RF detector. Clearly,
there will be better or worse ones for this purpose, just
like with any other diode. So Jones is sort of right, the
LED will matter, but only inasmuch as that it makes a
better detector. I would look for LED's that are 1) very
efficient and 2) have the smallest junction capacity.

As George knows, I agree that if there is any magic
at all here it would be in the core. Vid#7 is suggestive,
but what I'm seeing is more of a magic trick than science.
Someone would have to pay him a visit to evaluate
the circuits without prejudice. Anyone live near him?

BTW, why refer to RF sourced from a high impedance resonant
transformer as "cold electricity"???

Also, a quick search of these archives produced a chain
of emails closely matching these (grin). We've been
down this road before with Ron.

K.

--- Keith & all,

Yes Ron Stiffler will seem to most of you as an odd
and unconventional fellow, but he is brilliant and
persistent. For some reason, I have some rapport with
him. He has decided to go NONPUBLIC now but he has
given me and a few others access to his website.

I am going to put together a file and parts-list on
the latest experiment ASAP, and will forward it to
this list.

In the mean time, I would recommend anyone wanting to
replicate to get hold of some of the cores on eBay

There are two values in mH and I think either will
work.

Ron said that 15 out of 20 of these worked, although
he has some better ones, which are older and not
available. They are cheap enough so that you can order
many.

Also get hold of a variety of LEDs, preferably of a
known bandgap and emission in the white, blue or low
UV range. You probably have the rest of the stuff.

More later

Jones
