No please. He asked me NOT to do that. He has already
had attacks on the site which put it down for extended
periods.

That is a SigGen which can be disconnected after
startup. Someone here can probably figure out a way to
substitue a xtal in its place anyway.

AHA! that is a very good question. As I understand it,
 when probes are inserted around one of them there is
a regular voltage BUT NO current.

My problem is that much of my thinking was based on
earlier incarnations, and this last one (with all the
LEDs in series) seems different.

Once again, I suspect that the LEDs are somehow an
active part, cohereing some power in concert with the
cores - not merely a 'load'. Sounds crazy but I have
good reason for this.
