Hey Nick,

Sadly, it doesn't. Active carbon is a specially prepared
charcoal, using coconut shells as the raw material. If
you want to play with it on the cheap, buy some from the
local pet shop, they usually sell pint jars of the stuff
in the tropical fish section. It'll be coarse, which is
bad, but it's still quite usable.

Didn't hear from either of you as to whether you
thought graphite would be a decent replacement for
charcoal in the interior of a copper float half
cell...

Another thought - I have a nice little closed cell
container of brass.  How would brass compare with
copper for the half cell shell?
